So nice to meet you! My name is Mrs Megan Schaller and I am so excited to be your fifth/sixth grade science teacher! I am originally from Chicago, but I have lived in Indiana for most of my life. I attended Indiana University, Bloomington, where I earned my Bachelors degree in education, graduating with Distinction. This will be my sixth year teaching.
In 2014 I had the privilege of being selected to the University of Notre Dame's Center for STEM Education Trustey Family STEM Teaching Fellows I, along with 2 other St.Barnabas teachers, worked for 2 and half years with the university to implement STEM integration into all facets of our school culture. As Senior Fellows our goal is to establish and maintain authentic, rich, and effective STEM understanding throughout the community that will result in a measurable cultural shift in the identity of our school. I feel very blessed to be part of such a wonderful community of educators. On April 18th, 2017 NASA's Kennedy Space Center launched the Orbital ATK CRS-7 cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station . As part of NASA's social media efforts to promote learning and share information about missions, people, and launches, NASA created a branch of the agency called NASA Social which hosts events for social media users. This event is an informal meeting which provides NASA followers with the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes at NASA facilities and events and speak with scientists, engineers, astronauts and managers. I was contacted by NASA and informed that my application had been accepted to attend the launch events at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. I traveled to Florida for three days where I toured the facility, viewed and photographed the ULA Atlas V rocket at Launch Complex 41, and met and interacted with NASA engineers, technicians, and other team members from Kennedy. I was able to ask interview style questions that my students had live on NASA tv. Additionally, I met with members of the NASA, Orbital ATK, and the United Launch Alliance social media teams and viewed the ULA Atlas V rocket and Cygnu spacecraft launch. In 2016 I married the greatest person I have ever met and my absolute best friend, Nick. We own a house in downtown Indianapolis where we love being active with our German shepherd, Diesel, and riding our bikes through the city. Personally, I love being organized and having a positive outlook on everything. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, catching up on movies and books, and surfing the web for new ideas. |
